Ministry of Education Stance on Self Placement in CSSPS

3 Min Read

The Ministry of Education (MoE) is embracing a new initiative by maintaining the self-placement option in the 2023 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), despite the flexibility for BECE students to select up to 11 schools.

In an exclusive interview with TimesGhana, a representative from the Ministry has assured that self-placement remains a vital feature in this year’s CSSPS.

The New School Selection Process

Two-Phase Selection

This year’s school selection process involves two distinct phases: the 1st placement and the 2nd placement sections. Students are required to take action in both phases.

First Placement Phase

During the first placement phase, students must select a total of six public second-cycle schools.

Second Placement Phase

In the second placement phase, an additional five schools can be chosen, bringing the total to 11 school preferences for each student.

The MoE official further explained that even with the expanded selection choices, the self-placement feature will remain available for students.

Should a student not secure a spot in any of their 11 chosen schools, they will have the opportunity to employ the self-placement feature, as disclosed by the MoE official.

Self-placement is an empowering process that grants BECE candidates the autonomy to navigate the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal, where they can make selections from schools with available vacancies.
