Kojo Choi’s Appointment Marks Shift Toward Global Reengagement, Says AIGS

The African Institute for Governance and Strategy (AIGS) has called President John Dramani Mahama’s choice of Kojo Choi a “diplomatic masterstroke.” They say the move was a strategic signal to Ghana’s international partners and a way to improve the country’s image around the world.

AIGS praised Mahama this week for “recognizing seasoned and globally connected professionals like Mr. Choi.” They said that Mr. Choi’s extensive experience in international relations, trade negotiations, and strategic diplomacy would be very helpful for Ghana’s foreign policy repositioning.

Kojo Choi is a well-known figure in Ghana’s international business and diplomatic circles. He has held important positions in both the public and private sectors in the past.

People all over Africa and beyond know him for being able to bring together policy and business interests.

Boost for Mahama’s Foreign Policy Vision

AIGS says that the appointment sends a clear message that the Mahama administration will have a more aggressive and globally connected foreign policy. Dr. Elsie Nkrumah, Director of Policy Analysis at AIGS, said,

“Kojo Choi brings not only technical skills but also trusted networks across Asia, the Middle East, and Western blocs.”

Choi’s Response

Kojo Choi said in a short statement that he was honoured to be chosen and would work toward “a more globally respected and economically resilient Ghana.” He said that the country needs “collaborative diplomacy and pragmatic engagement” to deal with its current economic and political problems.

“I believe Ghana can rise again—not just through internal reforms but also through smarter engagement with the world,” Choi noted.
