Today, let’s find learn a bit about the Ghana army, their salary structure according to their ranks and also how much each personnel in the Ghana Army earns every month.

You do know that the Ghanaian army just like any other is the pride of the nation. Hence their ultimate objective is to keep Ghana and its citizens safe from external attacks. Therefore, this has been the top priority and primary responsibility of the Ghanaian Army.

What comes to your mind when you see a soldier? You see strength, power, skills, and integrity. However most of the time people ask how much these gallant soldiers take monthly. And it’s a debate whether how much they earn is even worth it since Ghana has never really gone to any war or had any external attacks.

Well, you will find your answers right here in this article but first, you need to know that the Ghana Army just like every other military organization in the world has an organized chain of command. They have two categories, the enlisted and the officers. In some other context, these ranks could be divided into commissioned and non-commissioned officers.

The Ghana Army Ranks

The Ghana Army conducts its recruitment exercise every year, and as such a lot of search queries have been submitted about the Ghana Army Salary Structure and Scale.

We will try as much as we can to address some of these queries in this article. However, before we go deeply into the Ghana Army salary structure, let’s find out more about the Ghana Army Rank Structure.

As earlier mentioned, the Ghana Army is divided into two categories, the Officers, and Enlisted Officers.

The Officers: are the managers, problem solvers, key influencers and planners who lead Enlisted Soldiers in all situations. are responsible for leading and training enlisted.

Enlisted Officers: a military officer who is given authority by an officer, but he or she is not technically considered to be in command.

The Ghana Army rank structure has an organized chain of command that is similar to the British army ranks structure, they are arranged in descending order:

GHANA ARMY RANKS FOR OFFICERS

The Ghana army has 10 ranks for officers which General is the highest rank and Second Lieutenant is the lowest rank. So below is the complete list of Ghana Army commission officers ranks:

  1. General – ★★★★★ [5 Stars]
  2. Lieutenant General – ★★★★ [4 Stars]
  3. Major General – ★★★ [3 Stars]
  4. Brigadier General – ★★ [2 Stars]
  5. Colonel – ★ [1 Star]
  6. Lieutenant Colonel
  7. Major
  8. Captain
  9. Lieutenant
  10. Second Lieutenant – [Lowest Rank]

GHANA ARMY RANKS FOR ENLISTED OFFICERS

There are 9 ranks in the Ghana Army for Enlisted officers. Below is the list:

  1. Chief Warrant Officer
  2. Warrant Officer Class I.
  3. Warrant Officer Class II.
  4. Staff Sergeant.
  5. Sergeant.
  6. Corporal.
  7. Lance-corporal.
  8. Private.
  9. Recruit – [Lowest Rank]

GHANA ARMY SALARY STRUCTURE AND RANKINGS

The Ghana Army structure is based solely on the level of your ranking in the Military. That is the higher your rank, the higher your pay. And also, the higher the rank, the higher the responsibility.

The salary of the Ghana army is not in the public domain, but from the resources, we gathered, the least ranking officer in the Ghana Army takes home around 1500GHC per month including other allowances.

However, there are some allowances and bonuses that are accrued to men and women of the Ghana Army. But the highest-ranking officers get the highest allowances down.

THE GHANA ARMY BRIEF HISTORY

The nation was under the Royal West African Frontier Force during the Gold Coast era, And then in 1959, two years after Ghana’s independence, the Royal West African Frontier Force withdrew to form the Ghanaian Army. The Ghanaian Air Force, Navy, and Ghanaian Army together formed the Ghanaian Armed Forces (GAF).

The Ghana Ministry of Defense and Central Defense Headquarters controls the Ghana Armed Forces affairs. The Ghanaian Ministry of Defense and Central Defense Headquarters are both located in the Federal capital, Accra.

The Ghana army has three commands; the Northern command, located in Tamale, the central command in Kumasi and the southern command in Accra.
