How To Apply For Ghana Education Service's Promotion

The Ghana Education Service, like all other institutions, gives room for the promotion of its workers based on merit. This means that a deserving worker at the GES can simply apply for promotions. But does that worker know the procedures to follow?

What are the grades of promotion?

The GES normally receives applications from suitably qualified serving officers and teachers to apply for consideration for promotion to the grade of:

  • Deputy Director
  • Assistant Director I
  • Assistant Director II
  • Principal Superintendent

What qualifications are required?

  • Deputy Director: An applicant should have been promoted to the grade of Assistant Director I and should have been continuously at the post since the date (except for the periods of approved leave of absence).
  • Assistant Director I: An applicant should have been promoted to Assistant Director ll and continuously at the post since the date (except for the periods of approved leave of absence).
  • Assistant Director ll: An applicant should have been promoted to the grade of Principal Superintendent and should have been continuously at the post since the date (except for the periods of approved leave of absence).
  • Principal Superintendent: An applicant should have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I and should have been continuously at the post since the date (except for the periods of approved leave of absence).

What must officers with master’s or PhD know?

For the avoidance of doubt, applicants who wish to rely on Masters/ Doctorate degrees to join the interviews out of turn should note the following:

  • Masters /Ph.D. The program should be on the approved GES course of study.
  • The Masters/Ph.D. certificate should not have been obtained before the previous promotion.
  • Applicants who wish to use the Masters/PHD certificates for ADI, ADII, and Deputy Director Promotion should have obtained their certificates on or before 2020.

How must you apply?

  • Each applicant should complete the APPLICATION FORM online and upload a passport-size photograph as well.
  • An applicant should upload only the last promotion letter, upgrading letter, or appointment letter.
  • An applicant should upload only Master’s/Doctorate Degree certificate when using it for his/her promotion.
  • All documents uploaded should be in a PDF Format except for the passport photograph.
  • All documents uploaded should be clear and readable
  • The completed application form should be uploaded on the website NOT LATER THAN OCTOBER.
  • Please note: Failure to comply is equivalent to outright disqualification.

How do you apply for promotion?

Any officer who wishes to apply for promotions must visit the GES promotion portal and begin an online application. These are the procedures;

  • Enter your GES staff identification number and phone number, and select the grade you’re applying for. Do not duplicate these details. Click on “Start Application ” afterward.
  • Proceed to fill out an online application form and upload a passport-sized picture
  • Upload your last GES promotional, upgrading, or appointment letter
  • You must make sure all documents provided are in PDF format, except the photograph
  • You must also make sure all documents are clear and readable.

If you’re a teacher and looking forward to applying for the promotion, you must make sure you meet all the requirements and have all the necessary documents to support your claims.
