Legon Presec's 8th NSMQ Trophy, A Record Achievement In 2023 NSMQ

In what appears to have been an exhilarating and even contest at the grand finale of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), the Presby Boys’ Secondary School, also known as PRESEC-Legon, emerged as the victors, securing the coveted title for their 8th time.

The atmosphere was electrifying as Achimota School took to the stage for their first finale in fourteen years. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, excited to witness their return. Equally thrilling was the reappearance of OWASS after three long years of absence. Their presence added a new level of anticipation and competitiveness to the event. And then there was PRESEC, the perennial favorites, who once again graced the finale for the fifth consecutive time.

Their consistent performance and remarkable talent made them a force to be reckoned with. As the three schools prepared to compete, the audience eagerly awaited a night of spectacular performances and fierce competition.

The competition was held on Monday, October 30, 2023, and it showcased an intense clash of wits and knowledge among three of the nation’s brightest schools. Presby Boys’ Secondary School exhibited their exceptional intelligence and expertise, ultimately winning the competition with an impressive score of 40 points.

Although Achimota High School and Opoku Ware Senior High School put up a tough fight, they fell short with 28 and 23 points, respectively. After the 5th round of the contest. It was truly an intense one as all the schools were battling it out with a close gap right until the 5th round when PRESEC Boys took a giant leap by answering all the riddle questions.

Presec took the glorious win for the 2023 NSMQ contest, taking home their eighth trophy as well as GHS 1m worth of cash prizes after securing the win.

The triumph of Presby Boys’ Secondary School in the 2023 NSMQ is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and exceptional academic prowess. And as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the event, it is truly a remarkable win for them. Not leaving out the fact that PRESEC – Legon is the only school to win the contest eight (8) times, and two consecutive wins.

KNUST Congratulates Stephen Apemah-Baa of OWASS

After the contest, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) also celebrated the extraordinary talent of Stephen Apemah-Baah, acknowledging the immense significance of his accomplishment. Stephen, who was previously a student at Good Shepherd R/C Junior High School, emerged as the winner of the 2022 edition of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz organized by the College of Science of KNUST.

What makes Stephen’s achievement even more remarkable is that he is currently in form one, yet he has already led Opoku Ware School to the finals of the National Science and Maths Quiz. KNUST proudly highlighted this achievement in a social media post, recognizing Stephen as the first form one student to achieve such a feat.

Price Awards For The Participating Schools

The Presecans emerged as the winners of the competition, securing an impressive GHS 75,000 as prize money. They also received an additional GHS 10,000 from AT for being the highest point scorers of the day.

In addition, they were awarded a GHS 75,000 insurance cover and various scholarships from other educational institutions. The team will take home GHS 20,000, while the teachers will also receive GHS 20,000. The remaining GHS 35,000 will be allocated to the school.

Achimota School, as the runners-up, received GHS 50,000 in prize money, with GHS 20,000 going to the school, and GHS 15,000 each awarded to the teachers and students. Opoku Ware School, placing third, received GHS 35,000 in cash prize, with GHS 10,000 each going to the team and teachers, and GHS 15,000 allocated to the school.
