Senior High School Placement Form not for Sale: MoE to Parents

The Senior High School placement form, available for free download, is explicitly not intended for sale. An official from the Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued a warning to heads of basic schools, urging them not to sell the form to students or parents.

Every Junior High School has been provided with a copy of the school selection register. The school placement form has been made accessible online through the Free SHS Secretariat website and should not be subject to any fees.”

A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 boys and 300,391 girls from 18,993 Junior High Schools, took part in the 2023 BECE for School Candidates, which ran from Monday, August 7, 2023, to Friday, August 11, 2023.

In terms of the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, there was a recorded total of 1,743 candidates, consisting of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure represents a 5.4% increase compared to the 2022 entry figure of 1,132.

The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates was conducted at 2,137 examination centers nationwide, while 15 centers, primarily in regional capitals, were designated for the BECE for Private candidates.

To ensure the smooth and successful administration of the 2023 BECE for School and Private Candidates, a total of 2,137 supervisors, 2,000 invigilators, and 21,027 invigilators were assigned to oversee the national examination.

In a related update, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that three weeks after the completion of the Basic Education Certificate Examination, they will commence the process of marking the BECE for School and Private Candidates’ scripts.

The exact duration of the marking process and the release date of BECE results will be determined by RPCC following preliminary coordination meetings.
