To make services easier and more convenient, the National Identification Authority rolled out an online registration platform for all Ghana applicants applying and registering for their Ghana cards.

What are applicants to be mindful of?

However, the applicant who seeks to use the online registration portal must take note of the following

  • Completing an online Application Form for the Ghana Card does not automatically qualify or make you eligible for a Ghana Card.
  • Submitting an online Application Form does not complete the registration process. It simply reduces the time within which the registration process is completed
  • You are required to present a copy of the completed Application Form at any of NIA’s Regional or District Offices and go through an interview process to confirm your eligibility for a Ghana Card.
  • Ensure that you print a copy of your completed and submitted online application form and bring it along when attending your interview.
  • If you do not possess any of the mandatory registration documents, you will be required to come along with the person(s) vouching for you during the interview process.
  • Except for a valid passport, a Birth Certificate, and a Naturalization document, all Government-issued ID cards and documents do not form part of the mandatory documents required to confirm the eligibility of an applicant to register for the Ghana Card.
  • Electronic versions of mandatory and supporting documents are not acceptable. Only hard copies of original documents are acceptable during the interview process.
  • Any person(s) vouching for you, the applicant, must be 18 years or older, of sound mind, and a holder of a Ghana Card and must fall within the category of persons permitted by law to vouch for an applicant.

How do you apply online?

For a first-time online applicant;

  • Visit the NIA website using any browser on your smartphone, laptop, desktop computer, or tablet
  • On the NIA’s homepage, there are pop-up menus. Tap on “Get it Now” under the pop-up menu “Visit our Online Registration Now”
  • The action sends you to a different page. Tap on “Create A New Application”. This takes you to a different page where you will be given a special registration ID in the format “BP-16648971774”.
  • You shall be required to create, generate, and confirm a passcode of your choice.
  • Remember to save your ID and passcode because they will be required for login at a later time
  • The passcode must have at least one letter, one capital letter, one number, and one special character
  • Now, after filling in and confirming your passcode, click on Register now
  • This action shall take you to a new page where you’ll be required to choose from options: Booking an Appointment Only or Create Application, and Book Appointment
  • Proceed to select an option of choice and click on confirm
  • On the page that pops up, you’re required to select the type of application you’re filling out. Which shall be provided as
First issuance, update, replacement, and renewal
  • You must also fill in your surname, your first name, and your other names. A prototype of how your name shall appear on your Ghana card will be shown to you for acceptance or rectification.
  • Accept when comfortable or rectify when not, please.
  • Afterward, you’ll proceed to a page where you shall answer questions similar to those you answered with the Registration Officer.
  • You shall be required to save and continue the questionnaire until you’re done answering.
  • After answering the questions, you’re required to print out the application form and submit it in person at any of the branches of the NIA.

For an applicant who has already created an account and started the online application, you can simply continue your application after you’ve logged in to the online application portal of the NIA.

At the comfort of your home, you can apply and register for your Ghana c
