WAEC Ghana Website Restored After Recent Hack

WAEC Ghana Website Restored After Recent Hack

After experiencing a hacking incident, the official website of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) at waecgh.org has finally been restored and is now accessible to the public. The timing of this incident was particularly unfortunate as it occurred just days before the highly anticipated release of the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

Although this incident caused widespread concern among students, parents, and educational institutions, who were ready to access their exam results and other details, the diligent efforts of the WAEC technical team ensured that the website was swiftly restored.

The WAEC Website’s Breach

The breach took place on the morning of Monday, October 16, 2023, sending shockwaves through the online community. It was not just a simple compromise of the website, but you could see that the perpetrators had gone to great lengths to change it to a virtual gambling platform like that of a casino.

As news of the cyber intrusion spread, concerns grew about the security of the previous results stored on the site’s servers. The silence from WAEC’s management only fueled the anxiety among people who were desperately waiting for an official statement on the matter.

Now that the WAEC website is back to normal, it is hoped that the release of their results will be a sort of relief for candidates and stakeholders alike, as we were all worried about the security of the results and other information on the platform.
