Ghanaian Highlife artist, known as Kwabena Kwabena, has responded to allegations that label him as gay. There has been speculation that his fashion choices, including unconventional outfits and polished nails, suggest a different sexual orientation. He frequently shares photos of himself wearing clothing that some perceive as feminine. During this year’s VGMAs, he attracted attention for one such outfit, sparking discussions on social media. However, Kwabena Kwabena addressed these critics on Asaase Radio in Accra, asserting that his sexuality cannot be deduced from his clothing preferences.
He highlighted the need for education within society, noting that misconceptions often stem from lack of knowledge. Kwabena Kwabena challenged the notion that grooming practices like manicures and pedicures are gender-specific, stating that everyone can partake in them. He advocated for open dialogue instead of online abuse when addressing disagreements. He emphasized that the negative feedback won’t discourage him from living authentically.
Kwabena Kwabena concluded by expressing his indifference to the criticisms, affirming his commitment to making personal choices that bring him comfort and happiness.
